These dessert recipes were inspired by one of the contestants in a cooking contest back in 2019.

I was in a local cooking contest and of course I was competing with the others.  All dishes brought into that competition had to use crock pot to make them.  I was so honored to be named the champion of that contest.  (Click here to check out the winning recipe)

Throughout the event, we manned our stations and handed out the samples to people who paid to come in.  Each attendee would be given 3 tickets for them to cast their votes of their favorite dishes.  They could cast each vote on 3 different dishes.  They could also cast all 3 votes into one.

Other than manning our stations, making friends was one of the best parts of the event.  We shared our experiences and tips in the kitchen.  We even tried out everybody's food.  One of them was this apple dump cake.  My husband loved it so much and asked me to replicate one when we got back home.  

I must say that I played with these easy dump cake recipes many, many times.  It was served in our family dinner and other pot luck dinners at church.  Although it was always a big hit, the cake part didn't come out the way I wanted for so long until I learned this genius tip and applied it.  Then, it finally put the last piece of puzzle together.

What I share here is the common ingredients and methods you are going to use.  There are tons of ways to make a delicious dump cake by applying the same method and switching up the flavors of certain ingredients.  There are endless options.  You will find many suggestions at the bottom of this page.

We sometimes serve these easy dump cake recipes as they are when it is warm.  Sometimes, we like to add a scoop of ice-cream with a drizzle of syrup.  No matter how you serve it, I can guarantee you that it is SUPER delicious!

I always love to have a bit of tartness when it comes to fruit pie filling.  If you like that, too, you can use either the juice of a small fresh lemon or 2 teaspoons of lemon concentrate from the bottle.  This is an optional ingredient.  If you choose to use a fresh lemon, save the zest for garnish later.

It takes 2 hours to cook on high heat to make this dessert.  My strategy is always to start cooking about 30 minutes before dinner is served.  It will give you time to mingle a little bit after dinner if there are guests and take a break from eating too much before serving dessert.

Ingredients
1 Box (15.25oz / 432g) Cake Mix
1 stick (1/2cup / 4oz / 113g) Butter (melted)
No-Stick Cooking Spray
2 Cans (21oz / 595g each) Pie Filling
2 tsp Lemon Concentrate (optional)

Apple Dump Cake Recipe and Instructions

Ingredients
1 Box (15.25oz / 432g) Yellow Cake Mix
1 stick (1/2cup / 4oz / 113g) Butter (melted)
2 cans Apple pie filling (21oz / 595g / can)
Sprinkle of ground cinnamon (no more than 1/2 tsp)
1 Lemon (juiced)

1. Melt a stick of butter in a small skillet at medium to medium low heat.
2. Transfer cake mix into a big mixing bowl, slowly drizzle melted butter into the bowl and mix everything together.  
3. There may be some lumps.  But it’s perfectly ok.  They will be cooked later.
4. Coat slow cooker insert with no-stick cooking spray generously.
5. Put ingredients into the crock pot in this order: apple pie filling, lemon juice, cake mix and butter mixture.  Use a fork to break up the lumps so that the cake mixture will be evenly spread on top of the pie filling.  Sprinkle ground cinnamon on top.
6. Cook on high heat for 2 hours or 4 hours on low heat.
7. Enjoy apple dump cake as is or serve it with ice-cream, whipped cream, caramel syrup.
