Keep It Sharp

Hi!

There may be a few hot days in upstate NY recently. But you can feel and see that fall is around the corner. That means it’s the season of pumpkin, spaghetti squash, butternut squash and many other fall vegetables.

What is the relationship between a sharp knife vs these squashes? We will dive into it in a little bit.

No matter what ingredients are and when you cook, a set of sharp knives in the kitchen is always a MUST for kitchen safety. We will also cover that, too.

Anyway, without further ado, let's find out together.

Happy Fall!

Tip/Idea

Sharp Knife vs Squashes Which One Stronger?

Fall most likely is the season that you desperately need some sharp knives because of all the hearty squashes. The very least is to cut a squash into halves before pop it into the oven, such as acorn squash. Some recipes will require to cut these squashes into different shapes and/or forms before cooking. So, the sharper your knife is, the easier of your prep work.

If you love those vegetables, I bet you know the challenge of cutting them. There were times I felt like I may cut my fingers off if I was not careful.

Sharp knives may sound dangerous. But I can’t tell you enough that the dull ones are even more dangerous. Being a big consumer of cabbages, I cut and slice an entire one almost every week. This is one of the all-season vegetables desperately needed a sharp knife every time.

When it comes to knives which gives me the most stability and sense of security, I must say that the Santoku knife is the best. The blade design is perfect for this task. Some people may call it as utility knife or serrated knife. What I would recommend is that the edge is hollow. My preference is a handle which gives me some grip, instead of a smooth one.

What's Knife/Knives Called in Chinese?

That’s the Chinese word of knife/knives. Both Mandarin and Cantonese pronunciation are very similar to each other. It is called "duo". It refers to any kind of knives. It looks very similar to this Chinese word 力 which means "strength". Yes, it can easily change the meaning with a slight change of a stroke, right?
