Save money, Waste Money, Save Money, Waste Money March 03, 2025 |
Frozen Food MonthMarch is National Frozen Food Month and National Nutrition Month. You may have already known that I used to despise frozen vegetables. Now, I am a big advocate. But I must admit that I am selective when it comes to frozen foods, especially the pre-made meals. I have my own reasons. It doesn’t mean that you have to agree with me. We will dive in how to determine your frozen food choices. Bon Appétit!

Tip/IdeaSave money, Waste Money, Save Money, Waste Money? My reasons are mostly because the price is way too much compared to the dish made by myself even with some store-bought help. Plus, I enjoy every second cooking in the kitchen. However, I never say no if one of the things happen: 1) Running out of time to serve a big crowd. There are some dishes better off to buy them pre-made and pop into the oven when needed, such as Mac and cheese. 2) The other kitchen gadget or tool is occupies. Here is an example. I am making a crock pot dinner and want to have smashed cauliflower as my side dish. But there is only one crock pot. I am not able to use it to make my slow cooker smashed cauliflower. As a result, I decided to use a pre-made frozen smashed cauliflower rice and pop it into the oven and serve it as a side dish. 3) Trying something new. There are dishes that your family don't eat a lot for some reasons. In my example, it is meatloaf with gravy and smashed potatoes. Then, I will get a frozen tray of that combination to fulfill my taste bud. In other words, things you don’t cook or eat often, pre-made frozen may be a better option. Why did I tell you all of this? The point is to remind you making your own judgement when it comes to pricier choice of frozen food. It’s like as much as I love the convenience of frozen vegetables, I do buy fresh ones. It’s a 50-50 mix. As long as you get the right balance to fit you, you will enjoy the convenience of it time-wise and financially.
Fun CultureChinese Frozen TreatsBut I must say that ice-cream flavors in Asia are unlimited. Some flavors may not last in the market forever. It is certainly great adventures for foodies. Let’s call out some examples, such as lychee, red bean, mocha, taro root (my mom’s favorite), coconut and so forth. I even tried once curry tofu rice flavored ice-cream. It actually tasted really great. So, next time when you stop by an Asian store nearby, check out their ice-cream section and see if you can find something different to try it out.
